Ghost immobiliser installation, fitted invisibly

A Ghost stops your engine running until a personal sequence has been entered on buttons the car already has. There is no fob, no LED, no aftermarket wiring and nothing for a thief to find, disable or clone.

The problem

Modern theft does not need your key

Three methods account for most of the vehicle theft we see across Bradford and West Yorkshire. All three defeat the factory immobiliser, because all three convince the car that an authorised key is present.

  • Under 60 seconds

    Relay attack

Two people, two amplifiers. One stands near your front door where the key sits, the other by the car. The signal is relayed across the gap and the vehicle believes the key is in the driver's hand. Under a minute, no forced entry, no noise.

  • No forced entry

    Key cloning

A handheld emulator reads the transponder data and writes a working duplicate. The thief now has a key the car fully accepts, and your insurer sees no sign of a break-in.

  • New key added

    OBD programming

A laptop plugged into the diagnostic port can add a brand new key to the vehicle. Some models will do it in a couple of minutes, and on many cars the port sits within reach of the door.

An alarm makes a noise nobody investigates. A tracker gets the car back afterwards, and we fit those too. A Ghost is the one that stops the vehicle moving at all, which is the only outcome that keeps it on your drive in the first place.

How it works

A sequence only you know

The Ghost talks to the vehicle over its existing CAN bus data network. It watches for a specific series of presses on controls the car already has, such as steering wheel buttons, the window switches or the pedals.

Until that sequence is entered, the engine will not start, or on some configurations will start and then refuse to move the vehicle. Nothing is cut, nothing is spliced and no relay is hidden in the loom, so there is no aftermarket wiring for a thief to locate and bypass.

Your sequence can be up to twenty presses long and is set with you at handover. Because it uses controls you touch every day, most people find it becomes muscle memory within a week.

  • Defeats relay, key cloning and OBD theft
  • No visible hardware and no key fob to lose
  • Recognised by most UK insurers
  • Vehicle remains 100% factory standard

Installation

What happens on the day

Budget two to three hours. You can wait at the workshop or drop the vehicle off and collect later.

  1. Pre-install scan

Every module is scanned before we touch anything, so we have a documented record of the vehicle’s condition on arrival and can spot any existing faults.

  2. Concealed fitting

The unit is connected to the CAN bus and hidden somewhere that takes a determined search to find. We never fit two vehicles of the same model in the same place.

  3. Your sequence

We program the sequence with you, not for you. You choose the buttons and the order, and we run through it together until you are entering it without thinking.

  4. Register and certify

The installation is registered on the national database and you leave with your certificate, installer reference and valet mode instructions.

Insurance & certification

Verified, registered, and worth quoting to your insurer

We install to TASSA-verified standards and register every vehicle on the national database. That record is what an insurer, and if the worst happens the police, can check to confirm the device is genuinely fitted and professionally installed.

Most UK insurers recognise a verified installation, and a good number of our customers find the reduction in premium covers a meaningful share of the cost within the first couple of renewals. We will not promise you a specific discount, because that is between you and your insurer, but we will give you every piece of paperwork you need to ask the question properly.

Questions

Ghost immobiliser questions

The things customers ask most before booking an installation. If yours is not here, ring the workshop and ask.

All FAQs

Will fitting a Ghost immobiliser affect my manufacturer warranty?

No. The Ghost communicates over the vehicle's existing CAN bus and does not cut, splice or replace any factory wiring. Because nothing is modified, the installation does not give a manufacturer grounds to reject a warranty claim. We provide written confirmation of the install method with every vehicle.

What happens if I forget my PIN sequence?

Ring the workshop. Once we have verified you are the registered owner we can reset the sequence, usually while you wait. We also record your installation against your vehicle so a replacement can be authorised even if you have lost your paperwork.

Can a valet or garage still drive my car?

Yes. Every install includes a service or valet mode that lets the vehicle be driven a short distance or for a limited period without disclosing your sequence. It re-arms automatically, so there is nothing to remember when you collect the car.

Does it work if the thief has a cloned key?

Yes, and this is the main reason people fit one. A cloned key, a relayed signal or a device plugged into the OBD port will all unlock and even crank the vehicle, but the engine will not run and the car will not move until the correct sequence has been entered.

Will my insurer recognise it?

Most UK insurers do, particularly when the installation is TASSA verified and registered on the national database, which is how we fit every unit. We give you the certificate and installer reference to quote. Always confirm the discount with your own insurer before you renew.

How long does the installation take?

Budget two to three hours for most vehicles. Some models with awkward module locations take a little longer. We will confirm the exact time for your make and model when you book.

Ghost installs

What owners say afterwards

  • Two RS3s taken off my street. Not mine.

There had been a run of thefts round here and my insurer was getting twitchy about renewing. Nav talked me through exactly how the Ghost works and where he would hide it, and did not try to upsell me a tracker I did not need. Car was back with me in under three hours, sequence set to something I would actually remember, and the paperwork went straight to my insurer. Two cars on my street have gone since. Mine is still on the drive.

  • My insurer knocked the premium down

Renewal had gone up massively because of where I live and what I drive. Fitted the Ghost, sent the TASSA certificate over, and the premium came back down by more than the install cost. Totally hidden, no fob to carry, and my partner picked up the sequence in about a minute. Reception was clean and I was kept updated the whole time.
