Customer collecting their vehicle from the Navs HID Direct workshop

10 published in full

Every review, unedited

Names are shortened to a surname initial at the customer's request. Nothing else has been changed.

  • Two RS3s taken off my street. Not mine.

There had been a run of thefts round here and my insurer was getting twitchy about renewing. Nav talked me through exactly how the Ghost works and where he would hide it, and did not try to upsell me a tracker I did not need. Car was back with me in under three hours, sequence set to something I would actually remember, and the paperwork went straight to my insurer. Two cars on my street have gone since. Mine is still on the drive.

  • Actually logged my car instead of flashing a generic file

I had been quoted cheaper elsewhere but nobody else mentioned datalogging. Nav drove it, logged it, wrote the map, then drove it again and adjusted. The difference in the mid range is night and day and it pulls cleanly rather than feeling like it is fighting itself. He also gave me a printed sheet of exactly what changed for my insurance, which saved me a very awkward phone call.

    Stage 1 Remap

  • Found in ninety minutes what two garages missed

Intermittent limp mode, no consistent code, and I had already paid for a boost sensor and a turbo actuator that changed nothing. Navs put a scope on it and showed me the trace where a chafed loom behind the engine was dropping out under load. Repaired the wiring, showed me the before and after, and knocked the diagnostic fee off the bill. Should have come here first and saved myself four hundred quid.

  • Fixed the cause, not just the symptom

Van is my living and the DPF light was on constantly. I asked about having it removed and was told straight away that they will not do that and why. Instead they cleaned it on the car, then found a sticking EGR valve that was loading it up in the first place. Explained how my short-run driving was making it worse and what to do about it. Six months on, light has not come back once.

  • Night driving completely transformed

I do a lot of rural miles and the standard halogens were frankly not safe enough for it. Rather than selling me bulbs, they opened the units and fitted proper projectors, then set the beam on the wall before I left. The cut-off is razor sharp, nobody flashes me, and there are no warning lights on the dash. Genuinely one of the best things I have spent money on for this car.

  • The gearbox finally matches the engine

Had the engine mapped elsewhere last year and it always felt like the box was holding it back, especially on kickdown. Navs recalibrated the DQ250, raised the torque limiter properly and sorted the clamping pressure so it is not slipping. Shifts are so much crisper and it no longer hesitates when you ask for it. He also checked the clutch adaptation values before and after and showed me the numbers.

  • My insurer knocked the premium down

Renewal had gone up massively because of where I live and what I drive. Fitted the Ghost, sent the TASSA certificate over, and the premium came back down by more than the install cost. Totally hidden, no fob to carry, and my partner picked up the sequence in about a minute. Reception was clean and I was kept updated the whole time.

  • Honest advice, even when it cost them a sale

Went in wanting Stage 2 and was told plainly that on the standard clutch and with my mileage it was not the right call, and that a well written Stage 1 would suit how I actually drive. He was right. Economy is up around six miles per gallon on my commute and it is far more relaxed to drive. Only reason for four stars is I waited a fortnight for a slot, though I would rather that than a rushed job.

    Economy Remap

  • Saved me eight hundred pounds on new units

Both headlights were badly clouded and full of condensation. The main dealer quoted for two new units. Navs stripped them, dried them out, replaced the seals and vents, machined and re-lacquered the lenses, then coded out a bulb warning that had been there for a year. They look like new units and cost a fraction of replacing them.

  • Explained it to me without being patronising

I do not know much about cars and I have been talked down to at garages before. That did not happen here. The fault was explained in plain English, I was shown the actual reading on the screen, and I was given a written report with a price for the repair and no pressure to book it there and then. I booked it anyway. Refreshing.

Reading between the lines

Four things customers keep mentioning

Having read back through several years of feedback, these are the patterns that come up again and again.

Told the truth, even when it cost them a sale

The single most repeated theme. Customers arrive wanting Stage 2, a DPF removed or a set of new headlights, and leave having been talked into something cheaper that suits the car better.

Found what other garages missed

Particularly on intermittent electrical faults where parts had already been replaced on a guess elsewhere. Scope testing is what usually turns that around.

Explained without being patronising

People who say they know nothing about cars consistently mention being shown the actual reading on the screen rather than being handed a verdict.

The insurance paperwork was sorted

Ghost customers repeatedly mention the TASSA certificate arriving without them having to chase it, and remap customers mention the specification sheet for their insurer.
