About us

We started with headlights. We ended up protecting people’s cars.

Navs HID Direct has been on Girlington Road since 2015. What began as a lighting specialist is now a seven-discipline workshop, and the reason for that is simple: customers kept asking us to solve the next problem, so we learned how to solve it properly.

Our story

Ten years on the same road

In 2015 the unit on Girlington Road did one thing: lighting. Xenon conversions, projector retrofits, and fixing the mess left behind when someone had dropped a cheap LED bulb into a halogen housing and wondered why oncoming drivers were flashing them.

That work taught us something that shaped everything since. Almost every lighting job turned into an electrical job. A bulb-out warning that would not clear. A module that needed coding. A canbus fault that three garages had already thrown parts at. We could either keep sending those customers away, or buy the equipment and learn to do it properly.

We bought the equipment. Diagnostics came in-house in 2018, ECU calibration followed in 2020, and by 2022 the rise in keyless vehicle theft across West Yorkshire meant Ghost immobiliser installation had become the single most requested job in the workshop.

The through-line has never changed. People come to us because something on their car needs doing properly, by someone who will explain it in plain English and will not invent work that does not need doing.

What we hold to

Four rules we do not bend

These are not marketing lines. Each one has cost us paid work, and each one is the reason the same customers keep coming back.

Tell people the truth

If a job is not worth doing on your vehicle, we say so before we take your money. We have talked more customers out of Stage 2 than into it, and we have sent people away with a diagnosis and no repair booked. Being trusted twice is worth more than being paid once.

Diagnose before you spend

Parts cannon repairs are the most expensive way to fix a car. Every electrical or drivability fault here starts with testing the circuit, not guessing at the component. It takes longer up front and costs far less by the end.

Stay inside the law

We do not remove DPFs, delete catalytic converters or fit lighting that will fail an MOT. Plenty of workshops do. We would rather lose that work than hand a customer a vehicle that becomes their problem at the next test.

One car at a time

We do not run four bays and split a technician across all of them. Your vehicle gets undivided attention from arrival to handover, which is why we book fewer jobs per day than we could and why the work comes back right.

How we got here

From one trade to seven

  1. 2015

HID lighting, a unit and a hand tool set

The business started as a lighting specialist, retrofitting xenon and early LED systems when most garages were still just swapping bulbs and hoping.

  2. 2018

    Diagnostics brought in-house

Lighting work kept surfacing coding and canbus faults that needed proper equipment. We invested in dealer-level tooling and oscilloscopes rather than sending customers elsewhere.

  3. 2020

    Custom calibration added

With the diagnostic side established, ECU work was the natural next step. We committed to custom, logged calibration from day one rather than reselling generic files.

  4. 2022

    Vehicle security becomes the priority

Keyless theft across West Yorkshire changed what customers needed most. Ghost immobiliser installation went from an occasional request to a core part of the workshop.

  5. 2026

Seven disciplines, one bay on Girlington Road

Security, tracking, performance, transmission, emissions, diagnostics and lighting, all handled in-house by the same team that started with headlights.

The team

Small team, no handovers

The technician who books your car in is the technician who works on it and the one who hands it back. Nothing gets lost in translation between a service advisor, a workshop controller and whoever happened to be free.

Between us we cover ECU and TCU calibration, module coding and retrofit, automotive electrical fault finding, emissions systems and optical lighting work. Where a job falls outside that, we will tell you and point you somewhere better rather than learning on your vehicle.

  • Dealer-level diagnostic coverage across the marques we work on
  • Manufacturer-specific tooling for VAG, BMW and Ford platforms
  • Oscilloscope and current-clamp testing for electrical faults
  • TASSA-verified Ghost immobiliser installation and registration

Want the detail on standards, warranty and how we compare to a main dealer or a mobile tuner? That is all set out separately.

Drop us your registration and what you are after. If it is something we should not be doing to your car, we will tell you that too.
